Just a thought...

Symbols – how they originate and come to represent a set of ideas over time has been the mainstay of my exploration with art for quite some time now starting with “Icons”, an exhibition of paintings at SAA in 2008.

The resilience of a symbol often depends on its flexibility which explains the popularity of an Easter egg hunt which has its origin in Pagan festivities, celebrating fertility, (Carl Jung, “Man and His Symbols”)

On the spiritual front, Natraaj, ie, “Dancing Shiva” is a complex and comprehensive symbol representing the cosmic cycle of birth, regeneration and death.

On the social networking front, Face Book, has gained immense popularity despite its superficial functionalities of having to “Confirm” an extension of friendship or to “Share” “What’s on your mind”.
