PAZ E AMOR!

The Message 2009
Size: 6ftx10ft
Medium: Oil on canvas, thermo cal, public inscriptions

My search for symbols and how they are perceived, drew my attention to the process of perception and how it is impacted by our predisposition...thus a familiar sight, sound or smell, brings back memories and transports us back to another time...since all we truly have is the present, the lure of being brought to another time zone sure has its charm!

The events of 9.11 in and 26.11 in Mumbai, added to my search for meaning behind communal identity versus individual identity or lack thereof, and the perception of definition and security of individual identity in a cross cultural setting. Thus I painted an iconic picture of New York City, with the Chrysler Building, and approached the general population in W4 Park, Times Square and South Street Seaport, to inscribe their opinions on my canvas regarding the felt security of the city or the world in general as there were tourists from all corners of the world on any given day. This was one topic they all related to. This was one topic they all had a thought or feeling they wanted to share, in their own language.
